Software and Web Localization

Languages and Platforms:

Language Japanese, Chinese, Korean, all European languages, Vietnamese, Tagalog, other Asian languages, Brazilian Portuguese, Latin Spanish, etc.
Platform Windows, Windows Mobile, BREW, Symbian, Linux and UNIX.

Unlike other software translation services, we have been focused on software localization since the very beginning. Our highly trained localization engineers have software programming experience, software localization experience and at least one foreign language skill. With track record of skill and experience in software localization, we have localized some of the most popular desktop and Internet software products. We are especially experienced in software localization into double-byte Japanese, Chinese and Korean for Asian market.

First, we evaluate the product and use efficient tools to create glossary that contains all the English strings from the product, and process the glossary with our glossary database by removing repetitive entries and eliminating entries that have been translated in our glossaries or are not required to be translated. Translators get familiar with the product and then translate the glossary either in house or at translation services locations. We review the glossary. The glossary is also reviewed against glossary from the localized OS and other main applications for consistence. The glossary may need to be reviewed and approved by the client upon client's request.

Secondly, localization engineers follow clients' localization documentation and use the translated glossary to localize the software and make sure nothing is over translated or under translated. The engineering process is to either modify only resources or recompile the whole project based on clients' requirement and platforms. Localization engineers go over all the resource types, make painstaking changes and ensure every aspect of the product looks and behaves as desired. Our localization engineers, with programming experience, can pinpoint any problems quickly during localization process and are capable of providing suggestion to clients' software engineers when localizing into double-byte languages. We can take over a software project and compile it into target languages. At Magellan, localization is not limited only to translating strings and resizing dialog box; in addition, we always check and realign every tiny component of software resources and make the software look and run as if it were originally designed for the target language.

User manual, on-line help, quick reference card and all other document are translated together with software glossary. Our glossary database synchronizes any changes between the software and document. Two different reviewers review the glossary at least twice. After the document translation, we finalize the document layout and make sure it matches the English document exactly.

Last, our quality assurance engineers test the user interface and functionality based on clients' test plan and make sure every aspect of the product matches the original product. Our QA engineers also test linguistic issues based on the glossary. We perform rigorous and thorough testing and deliver products in ready-to-ship condition to our clients.
